Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are your self storage units dry?
A: In building our facility, managing water control was critical. Most storage facilities are built like a flat parking lot because it is easier. Our self-storage facility is built into a hill, as you can see by the photos. In the design we engineered our drainage where all water pitches away from the storage space to the center of our wide aisles, then flows controlled to the West end, out of our lot. Also, the designed slope of our buildings' roofing systems sheds water quickly. Additionally, the ceilings inside our storage units are insulated to prevent condensation. The interior concrete floor level (water-control design) of each self-storage unit is raised well above the surrounding drive to prevent any possible water entry.
Q: Are your mini storage units clean?
A: We offer you a modern self-storage facility that is kept neat and clean. Our mini self-storage units have door tracks and seals that limit dust. Pest control is professionally applied around the outside perimeter of each storage building 4 times per year. Each unit is cleaned prior to the tenant renting the unit.
Q: What about security? (SAFETY IS OUR #1 GOAL!)
A: Our buildings are situated right next to the road (not tucked in way behind somewhere, out of sight), so visibility from the road is clear. Owners live on the premises and are attentive to all activity in the area. Most important, your belongings are as secure as the lock you put on your unit. We offer the Chateau Stainless Steel Disc Lock to all of our renters. This lock comes packaged with 2 keys and is very secure. The locks can be purchased upon signing your lease and are yours to keep. We do not keep a key for your unit, however, we can cut your lock if you have lost or misplaced your keys.
Q: What about lighting?
A: Lighting is mounted directly on all the buildings throughout the self-storage facility aisles outside the buildings. Lights operate from dusk until dawn. For fire and electrical safety, there are no lights or electricity provided inside the units.
Q: Who will have access to my self storage locker?
A: You, the tenant is the only person who has access to your storage unit. However, if you fail to keep up with monthly storage payments, tenant's access will be restricted until payment has been received in full and you maintain monthly payment status.
Q: When can I have access to my mini storage unit?
A: You will have access seven days per week, 24 hours a day.
Q: Can my long-haul moving van or truck get in?
A: Yes! Our facility is designed so that long-haul moving vans have easy access.
Q: What shouldn't I store?
A: Please do not store food, perishable items, flammables, explosives, hazardous wastes, etc. Your lease describes these in more detail. If you have an item of question, please feel free to discuss with us.
Q: Are my stored items insured?
A: We strongly suggest that you contact your insurance company and advise them that you are utilizing self-storage space to be certain that you have insurance coverage. Our insurance does not cover your stored belongings. Insurance is the tenant's responsibility.
Q: What about car storage?
A: We would be happy to store your vehicle for you, seasonal or long-term! We just ask that in order for us to help keep our storage units looking clean, we require that you put under your oil pan and rear axle something to keep any fluids from dripping onto the floor (Ex.: large cardboard pieces work well). Also, the vehicle must be operable, and titled in your name.
Q: What about boat storage (same for campers/RVs)?
A: Yes, and just like car storage, in order to keep our units looking clean, we require that you put under your boat/RV/camper something to keep any fluids from dripping onto the floor.
Q: How do we rent a storage unit?
A: We like to meet our prospective tenants face-to-face. Please call us at 920-924-9744 to arrange an appointment to stop by and view the unit size that you feel you need. We will personally meet you at our storage facility and show you all sizes available. Once you have determined the unit size that best fits your need, we then complete a one-page Rental Agreement and take payment. Payment includes the security deposit, rent for that month (prorated or full month depends on when you start renting the unit) and lock. This process takes about 15 minutes.
Q: What is the minimum rental commitment?
A: The minimum rental period is 1 month.
Q: Do I provide my own lock?
A: Secure Storage gives you the option to provide your own lock or purchase a lock from us. We highly recommend and sell the Chateau Stainless Steel Disc lock for a minimal charge. Keep in mind, your belongings are as safe as the lock you place on your unit.
Q: How do I make my monthly payments?
A: On the first of every month, we send out a postcard statement as a reminder for payment. Payment is due 15 days from receipt of the statement. We accept cash, check or money orders. Many of our customers don't care to be bothered by our monthly postcard statement so they set up a monthly automatic payment plan with their bank institution.
Q: When can we see your facility to see if it is right for us?
A: We are flexible and do our very best to be accommodating with our potential renters. Please call us at 920-924-9744 to set up a time to meet with us.
Q: How do we notify you of moving out?
A: We ask for a 30-day written notice prior to vacating your unit. This helps us out for future potential renters possibly needing that same size unit and helps us to determine the availability of your unit.
Q: Once my unit is empty, what do I need to do?
A: When you vacate your unit, please take everything with you. You will not be guaranteed your security deposit if anything is left behind for Secure Storage to get rid of. We do not ask our renters to sweep out the empty unit, but is most appreciated if they choose to do so. However, we DO NOT hold security deposits if you do not sweep your empty unit. Please call us to confirm your vacancy and to report a change of address so that we can return your security deposit to the correct address.
